Programme of this training in UX design and IA

You’ll learn the entire process behind working out the concept, information architecture and UX design of your website or intranet.

Below you’ll find the basic programme of the training course. The exact content will be tailored to the needs and expectations of your organisation and team.

The format of this in-company training is also entirely up to you. It can be a 1-day training course, a coaching programme of several weeks, or something else.

Please note: this isn’t a course about graphic design. It’s a course in UX design. Hence, the focus lies on fundamental issues concerning structure, functionalities and user interface. Things you should determine before you turn to graphics.

  • 1. What belongs on your website?

You’ll learn how to determine what should and shouldn’t be on your website.

Show the information visitors expect, delete what’s unnecessary.

You’ll learn how to determine this objectively through analytics, a toptask survey and user testing.

  • 2. Work out an information architecture

You’ll discover methods for creating a user-centric structure so that your visitors quickly find what they need.

In other words: classifying, categorising and labelling your content and catalogue.

You’ll also learn how to test and refine your structure with the help of your users during this phase (card sorting, tree testing, …).

  • 3. Create a UX design

You’ll learn fundamental UX principles about what works and what doesn’t work online.

This way, you can create basic layouts or mock-ups of your site yourself. Or give well-founded feedback to your designers.

You’ll also discover how to test your UX design before having your website developed.

What’s in it for you?

After this training in UX design and information architecture, you:

  • Understand that UX design is the foundation of a website or intranet on which people can easily find their way around.
  • Can conduct user research to find out what your visitors want and don’t want.
  • Know how to make mock-ups and wireframes. This will save you time and money during development.
  • Can test and optimise every UX design before your site or intranet is built.
  • Know how to make a website that fully meets the needs of your users.

Also for intranet

We have an adapted version of this course if you want to know more about information architecture and UX design for your intranet. Based on our experience for organisations like UZ Leuven, University of Ghent, Municipality of Mol and IMEC.

  • Same roadmap but tailored to the specific issues and capabilities of an intranet
  • Additional step with best practices on creating content for and managing the intranet
  • Lots of examples and screenshots of intranets for inspiration

What participants say

  • The training was hands-on, based on facts and filled with clear and realistic examples. It literally gives you tools to get started yourself afterwards. The content is easy to translate to your own organisation and provides the necessary arguments to ‘sell’ your project to management.

    Roeland Kortleven

    Communications, City Council of Mol

  • The training is very hands-on because the instructor also works in the field and yet the theory was also good, excellent balance between the 2 elements. Seeing the examples literally and figuratively opened our eyes.

    Griet Vanhoecke

    Intranet Manager, VDAB

  • The practical format of the day allows you to get started almost immediately. And in case you forget the subtleties after a few days, there’s still the extensive additional documentation. A textbook example.

    Didier Van Coppenolle

    Internal Communication Officer, Securex

  • Very witty and clearly articulated! All aspects of information architecture and UX design are covered. Moreover, the trainer is a captivating speaker thanks to his expertise and humour.

    Steven Vandendriessche

    Communication Specialist, Worldline Global

  • It always takes an extra effort to go to a training course but I saved masses of time by attending this one. Very useful practical tips!

    Wendy De Coster

    Webmaster, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Ziekenhuis Aalst
